 To promote safe and successful UK sailing and motorboating by pursuing the following objectives:

Our Primary Objectives  


Participation
  
  • To increase participation through RYA driven activity  
  • increase the number of people who go boating, and the time they spend boating
  • increase the frequency with which people go boating  

Safety
 

  • To promote the safety afloat message to all individuals and organisations associated with boating
  • in conjunction with the appropriate agencies so that the number of preventable incidents and deaths is reduced. 

Representation  

  • To represent recreational boating rights and responsibilities 
  • to establish the RYA as an undisputed upholder of boaters' rights
  • to work with relevant national and international organisations
  • to protect boaters rights to enjoy their activity in a responsible way, in safety and in harmony with other water users, both in UK waters and overseas.  

Performance 
 
To raise standards 
  • of sailing, windsurfing, motorboating and powerboating to enhance competition and for the overall enjoyment of boating  throughout the UK
  • to achieve international competitive success at significant international championships and in world rankings.
  
Training  

  • To establish the RYA as the primary source of boating information and training programmes  
  • for all recreational boaters in the UK
  • to expand that role overseas.
  

Our Associated Objectives  

Widening Access  

  • to ensure that the RYA's services, including training schemes, are available to all, including groups who have been under-represented in the past.

Membership  

  • To expand the membership base
  • to offer excellent service, tangible benefits of RYA membership, an improved image of the RYA and better communication of its work to represent and protect the sport
  • to encourage more members to become involved in the running of the RYA and its programmes at all levels.
   
Volunteering  

  • To develop a well-informed, skilled and motivated network of volunteers to promote boating and deliver the RYA s programmes at club, regional and national level.
  
Communications  

  • To become the authoritative "Voice of Boating" in the UK   
  • to seek wider recognition by all key audiences of the RYA s views, commitment and achievements
  • to ensure the RYA understands and represents the views of boaters
  • to liaise with the boating industry to promote common objectives.
  
Financial  

  • To be financially strong  
  • to achieve annual net surpluses in the income and expenditure account
  • to strengthen the balance sheet year-on-year
  • to expand the revenue-generating activities of the RYA such as training, publications and membership.
