The RYA with support from Trinity House Corporation and the Cruising Association carried out an extensive mapping exercise to identify recreational boating activity around the UK coast. The project identified the location of coastal clubs, training centres and marinas as well as cruising routes, sailing and racing areas. 

The project has resulted in the publication of the UK Atlas of Recreational Boating. The publication presents a comprehensive set of charts that cover all UK waters. The project was initiated due to the increasing proposals for offshore energy developments and the need to identify the location of boating activity. In addition, it will be invaluable in future marine spatial planning.
