Qualification | Details |
Racing Coach Level 2 |
Can Teach: Level 4 'Start racing' and 'Intermediate racing' at an RTC or an RYA affiliated club. Aims: To introduce novice sailors to racing at clubs and run/facilitate general race training within clubs. Course Length: 1 weekend course for experienced racers run at local clubs. Plus attendance of either SailSmart or TopMark during their first year. Eligibility to become an Racing Coach Level 2: • Appropriate racing experience (guide = good club racer) • Appropriate current racing knowledge (classes/pathways) • RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate • A valid RYA recommended first aid certificate (6 hours duration and covering hypothermia) • Minimum age 16. Level 2 Coaches aged under 18 should be appropriately supervised by an adult who is either a Senior Instructor or a Racing Coach Level 2 or above. • Previous instructing experienced is preferred but is not essential if the candidate has suitable alternative experience. Revalidation: Every 3 years at either Dinghy Show, SailSmart or TopMark. Run by the RYA Coaching Development Team. FIND A COURSE . |
Racing Coach Level 3 |
Can Teach: All Racing Schemes. Aims: To improve the standard of race training at class level or within an RYA Squad. Course Length: 2 weekends of theory and practical, 1 weekend assessment working with a National Coach. Attendence of CPD. Course Requirements: Top 20% of your Class. Racing Coach Level 2 and 1 year's experience. To have assisted with a Racing Coach Level 3 or RYA Squad training. Recommended by Class or High Performance Manager/National Coach. Revalidation: Every 3 years at either SailSmart, TopMark or CPD. Run by the RYA Coaching Development Team. Applications and queries to Helen Cartwright, Coaching Development Manager. Variations on the Racing Coach Level 2 Course |
Team Racing: This course selects experienced team racers and teachers them techniques for coaching fleet racers the basic skills involved in team racing. FIND A COURSE . Keelboat Racing: This course selects experienced keelboat racers and teachers them techniques to help improve the racing in keelboat classes. FIND A COURSE . Junior and Youth Coaches Course: This course is specially aimed at talented sailors, often ex-youth squad sailors, keen to get involved in working within the RYA Junior and Youth Programmes.
