With the announcement that the 2012 Olympics are coming to London and the sailing events coming to Weymouth, there has been a massive response from the British public wanting to get involved.
The Sailing community have been particularly eager to put something back into the sport that they have loved.
There are so many ways to enjoy sailing and we hope that no matter where your interest lies, you will all have the opportunity to assist at our World Class Events.
It is important to understand at this stage that the Royal Yachting Association will not be organising the Sailing at the 2012 games. It will be acting in merely an advisory role.
The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) will be in charge, however due to sailing s specific and very technical needs, they will need as much help from us as they can get.
In order to ensure that the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and the rest of Britain are ready for 2012, the RYA will be rolling out a programme of International Events over the next 6 years that will not only benefit Weymouth but many other UK Sailing centres in the run up to the games.
In our first year of organising World Class Sailing Events we have had many successes, including the 2006 Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships which smashed all records in terms of attendance and was branded the best Youth Worlds to date by the International Sailing Federation.
Other successes include the 29er World and 49er European Championships and the most recent Sail for Gold Regatta.
