Volunteer Profile - BEV MOSS
Here are the highlights of Bev Moss' profile as a Volunteer. You can download the complete version by clicking on the link at the top of the page.
Name: Bev Moss
Age: 65 (going on 30!!)
Background:
How did you get into Sailing?
Hastings & St.Leonards sailing club & Hayling Island sailing club.
I originally played cricket for my county and school at junior level with hopes of becoming an England fast bowler until an extremely wet summer in 1957 put the skids under that!!!
The thought of getting that wet did not appeal too much but I gave it a try, and lo and behold I did not make the Oval for the final test!
How often do you get out on the water?
Most weekends now either as a race officer or crewing a flying 15 or an R.S Elite.
Why did you sign up to the World Class Events Volunteer Programme?
I signed up to the world class events to be able to put back into sailing - something that I have had so much pleasure out of over many years. It is important to give sailors the regattas they deserve, because it is not cheap to travel around the country and the world and get poor racing.
Which Events have you worked at? I have been involved as ARO in the 420 Worlds at Hayling and 505 Worlds last year at Hayling. I have also worked as ARO at the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships and the Skandia Sail for Gold events in 2006 where I was principal race officer for the medal event.
What aspects do you enjoy most when Volunteering? To be part of a successful, professionally run event of which all of these were.
What is the worst part of being an RYA World Class Events volunteer? NOT BEING ABLE TO TAKE PART!!!
What advice would you give to someone who was thinking about joining the RYA World Class Events Programme?
Just go ahead and be proud to do it.
