The Andrew Simpson Foundation (ASF) was founded in memory of, inspired by, Olympic Gold medallist Andrew 'Bart' Simpson. The Founding Trustees are Sir Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy OBE and Andrew's wife Leah.
The ASF honours the life and legacy of a sailor who was passionate about encouraging and helping others to fulfil their aims. Its simple objective it to "inspire the next generation" by using sailing to improve the lives of
young people across the world.
The Andrew Simpson Foundation’s key focus areas are:
1. To provide opportunities for 1000s of disadvantaged young people to experience the benefits of regular sailing participation
2. To work with young people (aged 5-24) with physical, mental, social & financial disadvantages, giving access to regular sailing sessions; the opportunity to learn key skills, develop as individuals & reach their potential
All the sailing programmes delivered & supported by the Foundation are underpinned by ground-breaking research into the benefits of regular sailing participation.
A yearly grant-giving process from the charity offers a wide range of support, both financial and/or practical to not-for-profit sailing initiatives and related organisations around the world. The 2017 ASF Grants process opens on 16th September and the application will be available online. Volunteer instructor training grants are still available please apply online.

Bart's Bash, launched in 2014, is the world's largest sailing event that is run by sailing clubs, community sailing programmes, sail training centres, yacht clubs, scout groups, sea cadets and even groups of sailors, all around the world. The main aims of the event are to increase international awareness of participation in sailing, and to raise funds for the Andrew Simpson Foundation to help support a range of sustainable projects, using sailing and watersports to improve the lives of children and young people globally.
