RYA Club of the Year 2012 

In the UK there is an amazing array of people who work together to create vibrant clubs that keep our sports alive. To recognise and promote their outstanding achievements we launched this Award for clubs in 2007.

RYA Club of the Year 2012 Finalists Announced

On Saturday 03 March the overall winner of the prestigious RYA Club of the Year Award 2012 will be announced at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2012.   

This year’s five finalists are:

  • Chichester Yacht Club, Chichester Marina, West Sussex
  • Hollowell Sailing Club, Hollowell Reservoir, Northamptonshire 
  • Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club, Lowton, Greater Manchester      
  • Salcombe Yacht Club, South Devon     
  • Staunton Harold Sailing Club, Staunton Harold Reservoir, Derbyshire

The top five clubs will travel to the show, held at Alexandra Palace, London to collect their finalist awards and enjoy a fun filled day at the show before the overall winner is unveiled at 16:45pm on the Volvo Main Stage.  

The shortlisted clubs were selected by the RYA Honours and Awards Panel who judged them on how well they promote the sport, encourage people onto the water and make their activities varied and available to their community.  

RYA Volunteer Development Officer Jackie Bennetts, who coordinates the awards comments: “We are delighted to announce this year’s RYA Club of the Year finalists who are all excellent; well run, vibrant and forward looking clubs, who really excel at what they set out to do.

"The Club of the Year Awards are a fantastic opportunity to highlight and promote all the good work clubs and their members put into keeping our sport alive”.

RYA Club of the Year 2011

At the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2011, Skandia Team GBR sailor Penny Clark and RYA CEO Sarah Treseder unveiled South Staffordshire Sailing Club as the RYA Club of the Year 2011.  

In this video members of South Staffordshire Sailing Club describe some of the many factors that make the club such a success.

Sarah Treseder, commented on the very high quality of all the applications recieved this year and commended the finalists for getting through to the final five. The 2011 finalists were:

  • Hollowell Sailing Club
  • Spinnaker Club
  • Sailing and Cruising Association
  • Glossop and District Sailing Club

Is your club the best in the UK?

Entries for the Club of the Year Award 2012  closed on 21 November 2011. Applications  for Club of the Year 2013 will be invited again in September 2012.
