Equality Policy and Plan
The Royal Yachting Association is committed to the principle of equality of opportunity and aims to ensure that all present and potential participants, members, instructors, coaches, competitors, officials, volunteers and employees are treated fairly and on an equal basis, irrespective of their gender, age, disability, ethnic origin, colour, religion or belief, social status or sexual orientation.
Our full policy statement can be downloaded from the link on the right.
The RYA Council has approved a four-year Action Plan to support its Strategic Objective 'To ensure that the RYA's services and programmes are inclusive and accessible to all, including under-represented groups'. The Plan, which has been jointly agreed with RYA Scotland, RYA Northern Ireland and Welsh Yachting, can also be downloaded using the links on the right.
The Action Plan sets out what we know about the make-up of different sectors of the sport in terms of their gender, disability, ethnicity and age. It then identifies areas of under-representation, suggests possible barriers to participation and sets out an action plan drawing together programmes and areas of work aimed at redressing the balance. If you have any comments on the Plan, please send them to jackie.reid@rya.org.uk
This work will contribute towards the achievement of the Equality Standard for Sport, established by the five Sports Councils as a benchmark for the governing bodies to whom they provide funding.
We currently lack information about our members and qualification holders, particularly in the areas of disability and ethnicity. If you can spare a few minutes to download, complete and return a Monitoring Form it would be very much appreciated.
