In response to DEFRA’s consultation document on proposed changes to British Waterways issued 30 March 2011

“The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has published its consultation document – A New Era for the Waterways – outlining how it proposes to transform British Waterways’ undertakings into a third sector body.  

“The Royal Yachting Association (RYA), amongst many other stakeholders, is being invited to give its views on the proposed New Waterways Charity which is intended to take over responsibility for the inland waterways that are currently managed on behalf of the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, which in principle the RYA is broadly supportive of.    

“We will now be considering the proposals in detail and producing a comprehensive response in due course”.
