Can you explain your role within the team?

As a physiologist I provide support to coaches and sailors throughout the pathway. The aim is to optimise the physical determinants associated with sailing performance.

What’s your sailing background?

None. However, I now live with a windsurfer who has promised to get me up and running.

How did you get involved with the team?

I applied for the post through the EIS in November 2015 and joined the team at the start of 2016.

Can you explain what a normal day as Physiologist involves?

I have come to learn quickly that there are not many normal days in the role. It does often involve ensuring training planners are updated and any training sessions are aligned with improving sailing performance. I also have other projects that keep me busy as well as planning and preparing with the rest of the SSSM Team.

What’s your greatest fear or phobia?

Heights. Although in an attempt to conquer my fear I have both skydived and bungee jumped (with no luck).

What would you love to do but never have the time or money for it?

Spend a considerable amount of time exploring South America!

What’s your worst habit?

Leaving my protein shaker unwashed!!!

Name 3 things that are always in your shopping trolley?

Avocado, Chicken & Eggs.

What was the last book you read?

Black Box Thinking: Marginal Gains and the Secrets of High Performance

What’s your favourite boat to sail?

I do not currently have one.
