OnBoard Instructors
Using fun games to teach children to sail is a great way to keep them interested.
During an onshore workshop at the Yorkshire and North East instructor conferences they came up with a list of sailing and windsurfing games for children.
The emphasis was on using the games to teach, with each one having a learning point, not just as a game for the sake of it.
It was suggested by one of the instructors that it would be a good idea for them to be able to try out some of the games for themselves, before actually trying it out on the children and came up with the 1 day workshop which was held in both regions.
The workshops gave instructors from OnBoard clubs the opportunity to try out some of the games between themselves to see what worked and what didn't.
It was a great way to be able to share ideas, with everyone taking away something that they could use within their own club's OnBoard sessions.
Using fun games to teach children to sail is a great way to keep them interested and wanting to come back for more, they are learning to sail without even realising it.
