50:50 in 2020
50:50 in 2020 is an ambition that was launched in October 2011. It is based on the fact that at Olympic level the number of male medals available is reducing whilst the number of female medals is increasing. Meaning there is a great opportunity to win more medals with our female athletes whilst maintaining the success we enjoy with our male athletes. If we reach this ambition then we will be entering the 2020 Olympiad expecting as many female medallists as we do male.
The key message for RYA coaches to take away is that to achieve 50:50 in 2020 we need to always ensure we are using the right approach at the right time. To-this-end the Coaching Development Team has introduced four new modules that are designed to explore and practice new ideas that coaches might want to add to their ‘coaching toolbox’.
