Powerboat & PW
The RYA's National Powerboat Scheme and Personal Watercraft courses can be run by training centres in the UK and overseas.
Full details of our requirements for running these courses can be found in the documents below. A brief summary is as follows:
- The Principal or nominated Chief Instructor must be an RYA Powerboat or Personal Watercraft Instructor as appropriate;
- Your training craft must be suitable for the type of courses you intend to run and you must have shorebased facilities including a teaching room, changing rooms, toilets and showers;
- If appropriate, your powerboat(s) will need to hold current Small Commercial Vessel certificate;
- An application for recognition must be sent to the RYA detailing who your instructor(s) will be, where you will run courses from and on which craft;
- An inspection visit will be arranged in order to check your crafts' suitability and maintenance, the shorebased facilities, and your centres administration and operating procedures.
When our inspector is happy that your centre complies with RYA requirements, a report will be submitted to recommend that recognition should be granted. Recognition is then granted by the RYA, at which time you will receive confirmation through the post and may start running and promoting our courses.
