Navigation & specialist short courses 

The RYA's navigation theory course and specialist short courses can be run by Training Centres in the UK and overseas. The navigation courses can also be run as correspondence courses.

This section covers the following courses:

  • Day Skipper Shorebased
  • Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased
  • Yachtmaster Ocean Shorebased
  • Diesel Engine Maintenance
  • Marine Radio Short Range Certificate
  • Radar
  • Sea Survival
  • RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety Course
  • First Aid

Full details of our requirements for running these courses can found in the documents below. A brief summary is as follows:

  • The Instructor must be an RYA instructor qualified in the appropriate area for the course(s) you wish to run;
  • You must have a suitable classroom with equipment such as chart plotters, life rafts, radios etc as appropriate;
  • An application for recognition must be sent to the RYA detailing who your instructor(s) will be and where your courses will be run.

If your centre complies with our requirements, recognition will be granted, at which time you may start running and promoting our courses.
