Canal & River Trust Approved by Parliament
Launch scheduled to take place on 12 July.
Yesterday (27 June) Parliament formally approved the British Waterways Board (Transfer of Functions) Order 2012, which permits the formal launch of the Canal & River Trust (CRT).
The launch is now scheduled to take place on 12 July. Celebrations and events are planned throughout England and Wales, so keep an eye out on local and online information sources to see what’s happening in your area.
At the same time, Parliament also approved the abolition of the Inland Waterways Advisory Council (IWAC) which was a statutory body created to advise British Waterways.
CRT’s view is that IWAC’s functions will largely be taken over by the Trust’s Council, though there are likely to be a couple of meetings of the National Waterways Forum, a follow on from the BW Advisory Forum which has also now officially ceased operations.
In addition, CRT has formed some Advisory Committees, covering Environment, Navigation and Heritage so far. Other advisory committees may follow.
