Want to try sailing and windsurfing?

From 01 May, venues across the country are offering ‘have a go’ taster sessions for all! No previous experience is necessary so why not find out how you and your family can get involved with sailing, windsurfing and watersports locally.

Such a fun day. The club volunteers couldn't have been more helpful. We had a great experience on the water and have been invited back to try a course

What to wear

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and footwear that you don’t mind getting wet (just in case!). If the weather isn’t very warm a windproof coat would be beneficial. A buoyancy aid or lifejacket will be provided by the venue.

On the day

Don’t worry if you’ve not been sailing before! You’ll be taken out on the water with a qualified instructor or an experienced sailor.

Minimum age

Some venues may have a minimum age, but many don’t. To find out more look at the ‘More Information’ tab on each of the event details or contact the venue directly.

Disabled sailors

Sailing Is a fantastic activity for people of all abilities.  Look out for Sailability 'Discover Sailing' Venues or get directly in touch with the club or centre to ask accessibility.Visit RYA Sailability for more information about sailing disabled people.

More information

You could bring a towel and maybe some spare clothes (particularly if you are bringing children). There will be changing facilities on site. Sun hat and sun scream are also important. You may be able to purchase refreshments on site (tea, coffee, BBQ, cakes etc) so a small amount of cash maybe handy. Every venues offer is different so do contact with the venue directly. They are looking for ward to hearing from you and will be able to provide more details and answer any further questions you may have.

I’ve been sailing and want to do more!

Don’t be afraid to get back in touch with the venue and ask them about how to progress. Alternatively more information can be found here.
