Notices to Mariners

Notices to Mariners are issued from a number of different sources, such as the UK Hydrographic Office, Trinity House or Local Harbour Authorities.

Notices to Mariners may contain a variety of information such as chart updates, changes in buoyage, prior warning of activities such as dredging, exclusion zones, harbour closures and byelaws etc.

Local notices to mariners are often available on-line and many harbour authorities allow you to subscribe for email updates as and when a new notice is published.

Admiralty Leisure (the leisure division of UKHO) have an web-based Leisure Notices to Mariners service, which has been specifically produced for Admiralty Leisure charts and folios. This details every chart on its own page and gives weekly updates of new information. Chartlets, if required are available to download. Imray has a similar corrections service on their website. There are links to both of these above.

The UKHO publishes Navigational Warnings for NAVAREA1 and the UK Coast on its web-site. Many of these warnings are of a temporary nature, but others may remain in force for several weeks and may be superseded by Notices to Mariners.

  • Glasson Dock / River Lune Notices to Mariners are available by email from the Lancaster Port Commission.

If you are aware of a source for notices to mariners which is not listed here, please email the Cruising Department
