Edgington who has coached Dempsey since the age of 17 talks about the role of a windsurfing coach, the differences from training to competition for a coach; what makes an Olympic windsurfer, a good coach and much more…

Barrie Edgington has been involved with the British Sailing Team since the late 80s, culminating in a 12th place in the men’s windsurfing class Barcelona 1992. Having worked as an RYA coach in the build-up to Atlanta 1996, Edgington coached Nick Dempsey to Britain’s first ever Olympic windsurfing medal - a bronze – at Athens 2004 before Dempsey claimed the RS:X World title in 2009. London 2012 will be Barrie’s sixth Games where he will once again coach Dempsey. Edgington is also the RYA Olympic Development Squad Manager, particularly helping to transition talented sailors from youth into the Olympic Classes arena.
