Heroes with Paralympic Ambitions
Among the many charities the RYA works with to provide pathways for disabled people to get into sailing and sail racing, three injured servicemen are currently being supported in their ambition to become sailing Paralympians by Help for Heroes.
Overseen by Matt Grier (RYA Disability Racing Development Coach), the three sailors are currently involved in the RYA’s Paralympic Transition Squad (PTS) as they continue their MOD-guided rehabilitation at Headley Court in Surrey.
The three servicemen currently training as part of the PTS are:
- Rifleman Craig Wood (2 Rifles)
- Lieutenant Colonel Steve Palmer (28 Engineer Regiment)
- Captain Luke Sinnott (Royal Engineers)
All three sailors are double above the knee amputees while Craig has also lost a hand.
