Day 2 Morning Preview:

Today it’s the turn of the Lasers (men and women) and the 49ers to get their Olympic Regattas underway after the British sailing team got London 2012 off to a solid start yesterday.

In total six of the 10 classes will be in action at Weymouth and Portland today.

*all times below are scheduled start times

Class: Laser (men’s one-person dinghy)
Sailor: Paul Goodison
Race 1: 12pm (Weymouth Bay South)
Race 2: 1.30pm (Weymouth Bay South)
Target Time: 60 minutes
Fact: Beijing 2008 champion Goodison begins the defence of his campaign.

Class: Laser Radial (women’s one-person dinghy)
Sailor: Alison Young
Race 1: 12.10pm (Weymouth Bay South)
Race 2: 1.40pm (Weymouth Bay South)
Target Time: 60 minutes
Fact: Ali Young makes her Olympic debut.

Class: 49er (men’s high performance skiff)
Sailor: Stevie Morrison / Ben Rhodes
Race 1: 12pm (Nothe)
Race 2: 1pm (Nothe)
Target Time: 30 minutes
Fact: Stevie and Ben have received a message of support from Sir Paul McCartney!

Class: Finn (men’s heavyweight dinghy)
Sailor: Ben Ainslie
Race 3: 2pm (Weymouth Bay West)
Race 4: 3.30pm (Weymouth Bay West)
Target Time: 60 minutes
Fact: Ben sits second overall after two races thanks to day one second places

Class: Star (men’s keelboat)
Sailor: Iain Percy / Andrew Simpson
Race 3: 2.10pm (Weymouth Bay West)
Race 4: 3.50pm (Weymouth Bay West)
Target Time: 60-75 minutes
Fact: The Star boys are fifth overall after two races after a day one 11th and 2nd

Class: Elliott 6m (women’s match racing)
Sailor: Lucy Macgregor / Annie Lush / Kate Macgregor
Race 3: 4pm v POR (Rita Gonçalves, Mariana Lobato, Diana Neves)
Race 4: 5pm v AUS (Olivia Price, Nina Curtis, Lucinda Whitty)
Target Time: 18 minutes
Fact: The Match Race Girls got their Olympics underway with a win and a loss

Weather:

It’s set to be a SUNNY day in Weymouth! With the breeze expecting to come from West / South West direction at around 10 knots for the start of the Laser and 49er racing at 12pm building to 16 knots with increasing cloud.
