Paul Brotherton on coaching 49er sailors Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes

From competitor to coach and setting the tempo for the boys training, to Olympic preparations, a coaches’ role at the Games and what competing at the Games means to them all.

Paul Brotherton is the only sailor to have won medals at both 470 and 49er World Championships, while he also finished 6th in the 470 at Barcelona 1992 with Andy Hemmings. After turning his hand to coaching, Brotherton was the fourth member of Sarah Ayton’s all-conquering Beijing 2008 Yngling gold medal winning team. In October 2009, he teamed back up with Mark Asquith, who he had previously sailed with from 1998-2003, to campaign for London 2012 and the pair won a silver medal at the 2009 49er Europeans and Hyeres World Cup Regatta gold in 2010. Brotherton returned to coaching in 2011 and is working with Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes.
