Bryony Vows To Bounce Back

Windsurfer Bryony Shaw vowed to come out fighting after their lay day after finishing day five of the London 2012 Sailing Regatta lying seventh overall.

The Oxford-raised RS:X class sailor got off to a good start in race one – race five of their event - going towards the left of the course with the rest of the fleet. She rounded mark one in second place before finding more speed on the first reach to take the lead.

In a close battle between the top boards over three testing laps, Bryony went into the third mark in fourth but unfortunately the Brit lost a place after dropping her rig at the last mark to take sixth.

Race two was an exhausting, physical battle of attrition with the sailors pumping hard for prolonged periods to stay planing. After taking a risk by picking the opposite side of the course to the leaders, Shaw finished eighth to sit in seventh spot.

After tomorrow’s rest, the RS:X Women are scheduled to resume at 12pm on Saturday (4 August) on the spectator Nothe course.

The Olympic Sailing Regatta runs from Sunday 29 July – Saturday 11 August. The RS:X Women’s medal race is scheduled for Tuesday 7 August (2pm).
