Thank you to all who helped make this year's RYA Push the Boat Out (PTBO) even more successful than ever. Over 500 events took place at over 380 venues across the country. In spite of some fairly challenging weather over the nine days, this year over 31,000 people attended local venues with most of them getting out on the water to experience sailing and windsurfing.
Over the years we have received many requests to extend the duration of PTBO, to better accommodate tidal constraints, minimise competition between venues in close proximity, encompass the two Bank Holiday weekends, avoid clashes with longstanding events etc. We are currently looking through the feedback from the venues that took part this year and this continues to be a theme.
We are therefore delighted to let you know that we have taken the decision to run PTBO 2018 over the whole month of May. Sign up will open in the autumn, so keep an eye out for more details in Club Room.
Now is a great time to get your club committee discussing whether to be involved in 2018, and pencil the dates in to the club calendar.
Important news: Push the Boat Out 2018 will take place for the whole of May.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to give us their initial feedback - we’re currently analysing the results and working to ensure we can improve on 2017’s events.
The feedback so far is looking very positive, with many constructive comments and suggestions for improving the support and resources we offer to venues taking part. We appreciate that putting on a successful PTBO event takes a massive effort and we are keen to provide a range of resources to make it a little easier for club volunteers.
It’s been a couple of months since PTBO took place, and we are now looking to find out how many of the 30,000 visitors have taken up club membership offers, or signed up to follow-on activities that are taking place over the summer. A key measure of the success of PTBO each year, is retaining these visitors and encouraging them to become regular sailors and club members.
We will report back to all PTBO Activators later in the summer.
More information on PTBO 2018 will be released soon.
