As the summer sailing season starts to wind down, the RYA is once again in the process of collecting and analysing race result data to produce the dinghy and multihull 2017 PN list. The RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Scheme allows sailing clubs across the UK and abroad to run successful mixed fleet handicap racing. Now in its 64th year, the PY scheme is well established and still growing.

The RYA urges all clubs who have not yet done so to submit their returns for the 2016 season. This can be done either via the PY Online Website or by completing The Electronic Return Form, the deadline for which is 16th December 2016.

As a result of feedback from clubs, the PY online website has undergone significant improvements during 2016. Using the new interactive map button, sailing clubs and classes can easily promote their racing and locate race officials. The improvements don’t stop there - for 2017 all clubs that have signed up will be able to create a club page with links to their website and information on upcoming events.

Tom Walker, RYA Technical Coordinator commented: “We’re pleased to see that many clubs have been taking full advantage of the PY online website features by uploading races throughout the 2016 season. We believe that the club handicaps created through the website offer a great solution to many of the issues faced by those clubs running mixed-fleet handicap racing. We are keen to promote these features and are currently scheduling Portsmouth Yardstick talks over the winter.”
