BKA set for Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland campaign

The National keelboat Squad is set to take on one of keelboat racing's toughest challenges by signing up for the 2010 Sevenstar Round Britain and Ireland Race in August.

The academy sailors will compete on the TP52, John Merricks II, with the full team set to be announced in early July.  

The race, seen as one of keelboat racing’s toughest challenges, will start at Cowes on Monday 23rd August and with the likes of Mike Slade’s super maxi ICAP Leopard and the Slovenian and Austrian racing teams Volvo Ocean 70, E1, already having signed up, the event is shaping up to provide a fantastic opportunity for the sailors to get a real taste of top level international competition and the demands associated with it.

Team 15 Interclub Championship underway

Another season of tightly fought battles in the Team15 Windsurfing Championship is already underway, with teams from across the country battling it out to reach the national final in October.

The Champinship aims to get young windsurfers out on the water and enjoying some friendly competition. Teams from Scotland and Wales have already locked fins on the racecourse and there will be many more battles to come over the course of the season.

Recent events

Superstock season starts in style

Eighteen thousand spectators raced down to Cornwall for the opening leg of the Powerboat P1 SuperStock Championship at Mounts Bay for the Penzance Grand Prix of the Sea.

The rugged Cornish coastline provided a dramatic backdrop for some equally breathtaking racing over the weekend of May 24. With boats reaching speeds in the region of 80mph, competition was fierce between the twelve teams taking part in the recently revamped class.

Ultimately it was veteran racers HeightsofAbraham.com who hit unrivalled pace on the water to prevail. The Derbyshire based outfit, consisting of Rupert Pugh and Dan Whapples who secured maximum points in Penzance.

UKFFORC Powerboat Championship 2nd Round Roundup 

Round 2 of the UK Formula Future Offshore Racing Club (UKFFORC) National series took place on the weekend of May 15 at Allhallows, Kent.

Behind the long winded name is a series which aims to proveide uncomplicated affordable racing for powerboaters using standard prduction boat hulls.

Conditions were wild for the event, which saw the Thames estuary unleash the full force of gusty wind over tide conditions on competitors. A full rundown of results can be found on the UKFFORC's website, along with details of the next event, held in Poole later this month.
