Olympic gold medallists Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark are gaining national recognition for their Rio achievements as the annual UK sporting awards season gets in full swing.

Already recognised on the world sailing stage as the Rolex World Sailors of the Year, the history-making duo - who claimed Britain’s first Olympic gold in the 40-year Olympic history of the 470 class – are also shortlisted as ‘Olympians of the Year’ in the Sunday Times Sportswomen of the Year awards, which will be held on Thursday 8 December.

Saskia Clark, winner of the 2015 Active Essex Sports Personality of the Year, has been shortlisted for the same prize this year, while Mills is among the eight contenders in the running for BBC Cymru Wales Sports Personality of the Year, alongside athletes Holly Arnold and Aled Sion Davies, footballer Gareth Bale, cyclists Elinor Barker and Owain Doult, taekwondo’s Jade Jones and boxer Lee Selby.

The winner of the Welsh Sports Personality of 2016 will be announced at the Wales Sports Awards on Monday 5 December - and you can play your part in helping Mills’ name appear on the trophy!

The BBC Cymru Wales Sports Personality of 2016 will be determined via a public vote.

Voting will open at 0800 GMT on Monday 28 November and will close on 1800 GMT on Saturday 3 December.

Stay tuned to the British Sailing Team’s Facebook or Twitter channels from Monday 28 November for details on how to cast your vote!
