A win for the Loch Insh Monsters at Monkie

The third event in the Scotland Team15 Inter-Club Championship took place last weekend (21 August) in Monikie Country Park where the Loch Insh Monsters clinched another win.

Despite some tricky weather conditions, many of the young windsurfers produced some really good performances as they continued the battle to win a place in the national final, the Team15 Champions Cup.

Changes in the wind meant that the courses had to be altered several times and the windward mark in the 5.8 and 6.8 classes was particularly difficult to round. This did not stop the youngsters enjoying the sunshine as they competed in four classes; 3.5m, 4.5m, 5.8m and the Techno 6.8m.

Lauren Millidine, aged 8 years, took part for the first time with a 2m sail in the 3.5m class and put in a strong performance completing every race. Her brother Tristan Millidine, aged 11 years, was also competing and put in a very impressive performance to win the 4.5m class. Both are members of the winning Loch Insh Team.

Islay and Erin Watson (aged 10 years and 12 years respectively) were also competing for the Loch Insh Monsters. Whilst Erin had only just moved up from the 3.5m class she still managed to secure a second place in the 4.5m class.

“WOW that was awesome. Had a great day, can’t wait for the next one” said Jamie Robertson from the East Kilbride Eagles when asked about how his first event went.

Competitors will now be looking forward to their next event taking place at Loch Insh Watersports on Sunday 28 August and hoping to be at the Team 15 Champions Cup in at the end of September.

Supported by industry leaders Tushingham/Starboard, Boards magazine and Neil Pryde. T15 was set up by the RYA to help make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to youngsters at a grass roots level.

Fun and informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs all over the country for kids up to the age of 15, which are run weekly by specialist RYA coaches.

The T15 inter-club championship takes place regionally over the summer adding a competitive edge and race training for those keen to hone their skills.

Kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of sessions is kept low.
