East Anglian World Champion Honoured

Powerboat world champion Scott Curtis is honoured by UIM.

Britain’s only current powerboat world champion, Scott Curtis, 26, from Norwich was honoured by the world’s governing body, the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), during a star-studded awards ceremony in Monaco at the weekend.

Curtis, whose four podium finishes included two outright wins in the Formula 4 World Championship, was the lone Brit amidst 63 powerboat racers from across the globe recognised for their achievements at the famous Salles des Etoiles venue.

He dedicated his win to his family’s commitment to the sport and is now planning his defence of the crown.

“I would love to progress to Formula 2 but for now my focus is on defending the title,” he stated. “As ever, that will depend upon finding sponsorship.”

UIM President Dr Raffaele Chiulli commended Curtis on his achievement, saying: “Scott is a shining example to any young would-be powerboat racer.

“He has progressed though the junior ranks and his natural talent has been complimented by great determination; he is a worthy UIM world champion.”
