Ex-T15 windsurfers are on top of the world
Not one, not two, but three World Championship titles go to ex-T15 windsurfers
Following a fantastic week of racing at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing (WPNSA), a total of 6 medals were won by ex-T15 sailors on Saturday 29th August at the IWA Junior, Youth & Masters Windsurfing World Championships.
It was a family act for the Sills, who are all ex-T15 Roadford Wreckers from the South West(s) Zone with Sam Sills taking Gold in the Techno U17 Boys fleet. Younger twin sisters Saskia and Imogen swapped the lead over the course of the week in the Techno U15 Girls fleet, with the final race determining Saskia as World Champion ahead of Imogen, who took Silver.
Meanwhile, it was Kieran Martin (ex-T15 Carsington Comet) who made it a clean sweep for the Brits in the Techno U15 fleets, taking the Boys title to tally three Gold medals for Great Britain. What a result!
Adding to Imogen Sills’ silver medal in the Techno U15 girls, ex-T15 Team Astbury sailor Adam Purcell picked up Bronze in the Techno U15 Boys, whilst ex-T15 Axbridge Animal Ali Masters put in a fantastic performance all week to achieve a podium position and walk off with a Bronze medal in the Raceboard Youth Fleet, sailing an RS:X.
Izzy Hamilton, ex-T15 Tamar Tiger, continued her winning streak. Having recently been crowned World Champion at the RS:X Youth Worlds in Turkey at the beginning of August, she then did it again by winning the Raceboard Youth ladies fleet at Weymouth using the RS:X.
Numerous other T15 sailors competed in the IWA World Championships and put in some cracking performances, especially Emma Labourne who just missed out on a podium place. To view the full results and reports from the week, click here.
Whilst a little too old to have been a Team15 sailor, it should be mentioned that Barrie Edgington - RYA Olympic Development Squad Manager - completed the medal run for Great Britain by achieving Bronze in the Raceboard Masters fleet, bringing the medal tally for GBR sailors to 7 in total.
