South East team the Hythe Hotshots are the first team to secure a place at the 2009 Team15 Champions Cup after winning the fourth and final round of  the SE Inter Club Championship this weekend (Sunday 4 July).

The last event was a tricky win for the Hotshots who are sponsored by Boards Magazine. Despite having dominated the SE championship this year they came up against quite a challenge from home team Spray Sprites who pushed them to the limit especially in the smaller classes where the Sprites picked up some very good results.

Team15 event Coordinator for the SE, Ian Kraft (Krafty) commented; “The Hotshots have historically been the strongest T15 team in the SE but this year the gap between them and the other teams has really reduced. They’ve had to step up their game considerably as the other teams have come on leaps and bounds especially the Spray Sprites. I’ve been particularly impressed with the female Hotshots this year who have shown some excellent windsurfing over the championship proving girls can windsurf just as well as boys if not better!”

He continued; “We wish the Hotshots the best of luck at the Champions Cup and look forward to seeing over the next months which teams will join them and form the competition this year. It’s about time the SE region had the trophy back!”

As well as the SE event, T15 events happened all over the country this weekend. Here’s a quick round up of the results.

East Zone Event 3

Alton water was the venue for the third event of the east zones championship on Saturday. Having dropped the opening event to Norwich Force 8th but won the second event the Alton Water Wipeouts were pleased to get back on track with a home win this weekend despite sweltering temperatures and shifty winds.

South Zone Event 2

Having kicked off their championship only 2 weeks ago at Farmoor Reservoir in Oxford, the south zones teams were back on again at Queen Mary Reservoir for event two on Saturday. Squalls greeted the sailors making for difficult conditions however with the momentum of the first event win the Zoomers powered through claiming the second event win.

SWS and SWN Zone Events 2

Down in the SW both SWN and SWS event twos followed the form of the opening events. Roseland Wave Riders won the SWS event held at Stithians Lake however event Coordinator Ady Davies warned the Wave Riders not to get to complacent as the Stithians Allstars are on their back and ready to exploit any mistakes made. The Axbridge Animals had some stiff competition to fight off from the Croft farm Flyers in the SWN event held at the challenging venue of South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre. They however stood up to the challenge wining the event and withholding their unbeaten record this championship.

Supported by industry leaders Neilson, Tushingham/Starboard, Windsurf magazine, Boards magazine and Neil Pryde, T15 was set up by the RYA to help make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to youngsters at a grass roots level. Fun and informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs all over the country for kids up to the age of 15, which are run weekly by specialist RYA coaches. The T15 inter-club championship takes place regionally over the summer adding a competitive edge and race training for those keen to hone their skills. Kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of sessions is kept low – to find out how to get involved and your local club visit the Team15 website by clicking on the link to the right.
