Gwent surfers dominate

Gwent windsurfers completed a whitewash victory in the final leg of the Welsh championships and will go forward to represent Wales at national level next month.

The Reservoir Dogs team, based at Llandegfedd Reservoir near Usk, were in dominant form in the fourth and final leg, with main rivals Swansea not taking to the water in the difficult conditions.

In the end the local duel between Reservoir Dogs pair Ben Marshall and Morgan Robinson came down to the last race as a decider. It was Marshall who just pipped his opponent by a second, while George Atkins pushed both of them all the way.

Bill Jackson RYA board member and a Llandegfedd sailor himself was pleased to present the trophies and congratulate his home team on their ability to represent their club and Wales at the T15 Inter Zone Championships on the 8&9 October at Pitsford Reservoir near Northampton.

Supported by industry leaders Tushingham/Starboard, Windsurf magazine, Boards magazine, Neil Pryde and Boardwise, T15 was set up by the RYA to help make windsurfing more accessible and appealing to youngsters at a grass roots level.

Fun and informal training sessions take place at T15 clubs all over the country for kids up to the age of 15, which are run weekly by specialist RYA coaches. The T15 inter-club championship takes place regionally over the summer adding a competitive edge and race training for those keen to hone their skills. Kit can be borrowed from the clubs and the cost of sessions is kept low.
