The RYA invites applications from sailors who are interested in participating in the ISAF Evaluation Event for the Kiteboarding discipline

The RYA Nomination Process for these trials is set out below.

1.0 Background

1.1 ISAF has initiated an Equipment Evaluation process for the 2016 Olympic Games in the Kiteboarding discipline and has invited Member National Authorities (“MNAs”) to participate in this process.

1.2 ISAF is inviting applications from one female and one male.

2.0 Applications

2.1
 In order to encourage transparency in this process, the RYA invites applications (to be received before 17th February 2012) from sailors who meet the criteria.  The RYA’s guidelines for prospective applicants are set out below.

3.0 Criteria & Guidelines

3.1 The RYA has appointed a Nomination Committee:
John Derbyshire, Racing Manager & Performance Director;
Stephen Park, Olympic Manager;
Barrie Edgington, Olympic Development Squad Manager; and
Harvey Hillary, National Racing Coach.

3.2  The Nomination Committee will determine the allocation of places and priority across the discipline and will shortlist nominations to the Olympic Steering Group for confirmation.

3.3 Applicants will initially be ranked by the RYA Olympic Development Squad Manager and the RYA Olympic Manager using the following criteria:

a) The potential for involvement in the 2016 RYA World Class Programme;

b) Recent past results, specifically (in descending order of priority):
    a.       The 2008 Olympic Games;
    b.      World Class Programme status;
    c.       2011 World Championships;
    d.      Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta 2011; and
    e.      UK National Championships;

c) The ability to add value to the equipment selection process; and

d) Any potential conflict of interest, including relationships with equipment manufacturers, membership of Class Associations and membership of any Committees of any equipment being tested.

3.4  From this long list, for sailors on the World Class Programme, the RYA Olympic Manager will determine availability (ie: not having any conflicting International Events in their class that they are required to attend).

3.5  The RYA Olympic Manager will present the applications and ranking list to the RYA Nomination Committee.

4.0  Outcome

4.1  The successful applicants will be contacted directly by the RYA.

4.2  All applicants who have not been contacted by the RYA before 2nd March 2012 should consider their applications to have been unsuccessful on this occasion.

Interested parties should complete the ISAF MNA Sailor Evaluation Event Application Form and respond to Stephen Park at the RYA, care of Sasha Lines (sasha.lines@rya.org.uk ) by 5pm GMT on Friday 17th February 2012.
