Instructors have a blast

North East and Yorkshire End of Season Blast a huge success

Over 40 dinghy and windsurf instructors from across the North East and Yorkshire took to the water last week (05 November) and enjoyed a day of coaching at the End of Season BLAST.

Provided by the RYA and held at Yorkshire Dales sailing Club, sailing instructors who have spent the season teaching others, were given the opportunity to receive some top tips and techniques to help improve their own windsurfing.

The four workshops included dinghy performance, boat handling and racing and advanced windsurfing and free style clinic.

Dinghy Coach Steve Gibbon said: “It was another fantastic BLAST, it’s so enjoyable coaching instructors in relaxed, informal sessions, and they get so much from it."

“We started the End of Season BLASTs to help develop the personal skills of the instructors in the region” explains Suzie Blair, RDO for the North East and Yorkshire

“There is such a great atmosphere at these events, everyone has fun, meets someone new and really makes the most of their time afloat with the coaches. I would like to say a huge thank you to the fantastic enthusiastic coaches who help make the BLAST so successful”.

In keeping with Guy Fawkes Day, there were fun firework themed prizes awarded for impressive skills and entertaining moments afloat.

Gillan Gibson a Dinghy Instructor from Thornton Steward Sailing Club, who has been to every BLAST since they began said: “It’s such a great opportunity to get out and try other boats at a different venue, I really don’t know why more people don’t come along, I always leave on such a high about sailing!”
