Navitus Bay Wind Park public exhibitions

Eneco will be holding eight public exhibitions in Hampshire and Dorset to provide people with information and updates on the Navitus Bay Wind Park.

Navitus Bay developer Eneco expects to submit an application to the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) in autumn 2013 for consent to develop the Navitus Bay Wind Park site on the south coast.

Before the application is made (the ‘pre-application’ stage) Eneco must carry out a number of statutory pre-application activities to support their application for development consent.

The Planning Act 2008 sets out statutory requirements to engage in pre-application consultation with local communities, local authorities, and those who would be directly affected by the proposals.

This recognises that because they live and work in the affected area, local people are particularly well placed to comment on what the impact of proposals on their local community might be; what mitigating measures might be appropriate, or what other opportunities might exist for meeting the project’s objectives.

Ultimately, the IPC must be satisfied that the pre-application consultation requirements of the Planning Act have been complied with before it can accept the application, and developers must be prepared to justify how they have fulfilled them.

Eneco has now entered the formal pre-application consultation period for the project and will be holding eight public exhibitions in Hampshire and Dorset to provide people with information and updates on Navitus Bay, along with the next steps.

There will also be an opportunity to speak with a member of the development team and provide feedback on the proposals.

The RYA has been fully engaged with Eneco from the outset. The final design of Navitus Bay Wind Park, both onshore and offshore, will be determined only after comprehensive consultation with the public and relevant organisations throughout the formal consultation period of the project which will last until the end of 2013.

If you are unable to attend any of the public exhibitions, but would like more information, please visit the Navitus Bay website.
