Nominations open for RYA Regional Young Sailors of the Year 

Nominate your young sailor or powerboater now 

The RYA has begun its search for 2009’s RYA Regional Young Sailors by opening nominations for the 2009 RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year Awards today (Monday, 24 August).  

Started in 1994, the awards are an opportunity for club members and class associations to nominate a young sailor or powerboater who has made an outstanding impact on the UK boating scene on the race course, around the club, by overcoming adversity or through an exceptional achievement within their RYA Region.

Your young sailor or powerboater must be under the age of 19 as of 31st December 2009. To can submit your nomination by using the online nomination form. Nominations will be considered by each RYA Region’s awards panel.    

Why nominate?

RYA Chief Executive Rod Carr commented: "We know there are an enormous amount of young people out there demonstrating great skill within the sport and doing fantastic things at their clubs. The RYA Regional Young Sailor of the Year Awards are an opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate, at a local level, their achievements."  

Past winners

Past regional winners include: Finn sailor and 2012 hopeful Giles Scott of the RYA East region; the talented young powerboater and sailor Luke McGill of the RYA North East Region who has put an exceptional amount of work into supporting his club; and Sam Coombs, James Hopson and Craig Paul who saved the life of fellow young competitor Nell Hardie in the RYA’s Scottish Region when she became trapped under water whilst sailing her 29er.
