Quarter-finals of the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship underway
Its not too late for you to get involved.
The quarter-finals phase of the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship, an exciting virtual regatta powered by the inshore sailboat racing and training game SailX.com, are now underway but it’s not too late for you to get involved.
So far 175 individuals representing 40 different classes have registered for the Championship and completed two weeks of racing during the practice sessions phase. The Laser and 18ft Skiff classes are already showing good form, but it’s from here on in that the racing really starts to count.
“Don’t worry if you haven’t registered yet or taken part in the practice sessions phase. The beauty of the championship is you can join at any stage – quarter-finals or semi-finals and still be in with a chance of making it into the final which will be held ‘live’ at the show (3-4 March at Alexandra Palace, London), on the Volvo Main Stage”, explained Amando Estela, creator of SailX.
“You can even turn up at the show and try to win a wildcard entry into the finals - these will be awarded to the ten best SailX racers each day of the show.”
During the quarter-finals phase, competitors start accumulating points for the first time and these points will count towards their finals qualification points score. Many more points are up for grabs during the semi-finals phase but these early points may prove valuable in the end and it’s always good to get a few points under your belt in the early stages.
The quarter-finals run until 12 February and then the semi-finals will run from 13-26 February. It’s really easy to get involved and the Championship is open to everyone.
To play SailX and compete in the Championship all you need to do is register as a user. Registration and racing is completely free.
Associated with the Championship is the famous Endeavour Trophy. The winning class will be awarded the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show SailX Championship Trophy 2012, while the winning individual will be awarded with the Virtual Endeavour Trophy 2012.
