RYA Sailability receive big money and launch this year's Sailability Sunsail Regatta  

At the London Boat Show

The RYA’s official charity RYA Sailability had plenty to celebrate as it kick started the year at the Tullett Prebon London International Boat Show on Friday (06 January 2012).  

Seventeen year old Tom Webb presented RYA Sailability a cheque for £1,300 which he raised by completing his Round Britain Solo Challenge last year.  

 

Inspired by the young disabled people he had met through the Even Keel Project and his local Sailability centre at Langstone Sailing Club, Tom set off for his voyage from Chichester on 07 July.

He completed his challenge on the 03 September after 39 stops, covering an incredible 1,700 nautical miles.  

“We are delighted to receive a cheque from Tom” said Robyn Griffith-Jones, Trustee of RYA Sailability.  

“He is a fantastic example of a volunteer whose energy and enthusiasm helps support the Sailability groups going throughout the country. We are pleased to allocate the funds directly back to Langstone where he volunteers”.  

Tom said: “I wanted to raise money for RYA Sailability and the Even Keel Project who have been such an inspiration to me. In my opinion sailing is the best sport in the world so to sail round Britain raising money for disabled people to enjoy sailing is a real honour. I would like to thank everyone who supported and sponsored me”.  

Later in the afternoon, RYA Sailability teamed up with Sunsail to officially launch the 2012 RYA Sailability Sunsail Regatta.  

The all-inclusive two day sailing event is open to corporate and private teams as well as individuals. Highlights of the regatta include two days racing and cruising on the identically matched Sunsail F40 Fleet and the opportunity to visit and dine at the historic and exclusive Royal Yacht Squadron.  

“Every boat taking part contributes directly to helping RYA Sailability groups What better way to spend two days than racing out on the famous waters of the Solent whilst raising money for a life-changing charity” Robyn concluded.
