The Weymouth Bayside Festival has closed

There are still loads of activities and attractions being run by the RYA and the borough council for visitors to enjoy and get involved in.

The Weymouth Bayside Festival has closed due to low visitor numbers.

The RYA’s ‘have a go at sailing and windsurfing’ free sessions with instructors and advice on how to get into the sport are running on the beach.

The borough council’s free live site on Weymouth’s golden sands will be showing all the sailing and other Olympics action and the sports arena on the beach is getting rave reviews from people who are trying their hand at everything from rugby and kayaking to volleyball and sailing on Weymouth Beach.

The live music and cultural events as part of the acclaimed Maritime Mix programme and amazing panoramic screenings in the ICCI360 Dome all continue.

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Chief Executive David Clarke said today (03 Aug) “The borough council is very disappointed for the company behind the Bayside Festival. The decision to close this single part of what is on offer in Weymouth at the moment is entirely a matter for the commercial operator of that site.

“People still have ten days to enjoy a once in a lifetime experience – the Olympics by the sea in Weymouth & Portland.   Ben Ainslie and the most successful sailing team in Olympic history will be sailing for gold from this weekend and into next week

Dorset Trading Standards manager Ivan Hancock commented: “Once a limited company has ceased trading and has gone into liquidation, it is always unlikely that customers would be successful in getting money back from that company.

“However, there are other options that customers can consider. If they have paid on a debit card they can contact their card provider to see if they are entitled to a refund under their banking rules.

“In the event that someone has spent more than £100 on a credit card they are likely to be entitled to a refund under the Consumer Trading Act.

“If customers have any questions they should call the Citizens Advice consumer service on 08454 04 05 06.”
