Towing skills and City Safety at RYA Volvo Dinghy Show 2010
Brush up your towing skills or experience the Volvo XC60's city safety technology at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show
At this year’s RYA Volvo Dinghy Show held at Alexandra Palace, London, 6/7 March, visitors will have the opportunity to brush up their towing skills or experience the Volvo XC60’s amazing city safety technology.
Throughout the show the RYA’s Ed Stevens and John Lefley from Volvo Car UK will be hosting practical towing clinics, giving you a hands-on opportunity to improve your towing skills in the Volvo XC60, with hints and tips on how to tow your dinghy safely and effectively.
The sessions will include theory and hands-on training, with practical exercises such as reverse parking a dinghy in a small area.
“There are a number of important considerations when towing; what’s your vehicle’s towing capacity? What sort of terrain and climate will you encounter? I would encourage everyone to come along, especially those who want to develop their skills in what can be a daunting part of life as a sailor or indeed a sailing parent”, commented John.
Visitors will also have the chance to try out Volvo's innovative City Safety technology. At speeds of up to 19mph, a laser sensor, fitted behind the rear-view mirror and looking through the windscreen, keeps an eye on traffic in front of the vehicle. The revolutionary City Safety system can detect vehicles and other objects up to 6 metres (approximately 30 feet) in front of the car’s front bumper and makes some 50 calculations a second to determine the breaking force required to avoid a collision. If the driver doesn’t respond after a certain level the car will automatically break; and at the show you’ll have the opportunity to experience the automatic breaking system in operation for yourself.
