Each year the Festival attracts thousands of visitors to the historic Docks in central Liverpool to explore the river's maritime heritage. Many come to see the Tall Ships that are a regular attraction at the event. There is also powerboat racing and a range of other water-borne demonstrations. You can find out more on the event website.
In 2017 the event is also playing host to the National Armed Forces Day, which is expected to bring even more people to the area.
The North West Region of the RYA gazebo will be there , manned by members of the regional team and they will be able to pre-book places for visitors at the enlarged Try Sailing programme planned this year.
There are nine Try Sailing events coming up across the North West Region with opportunities to experience dinghy sailing or windsurfing for free or low cost.
The next event is on Wednesday evening (28 June) from 6pm - 9pm where visitors can try both dinghy sailing and windsurfing for free. On Saturday 1 July, the focus turns to Crosby Lakeside Adventure with free dinghy tasters from 10am - 4pm.
Scotsman's Flash Activity Centre near Wigan have a modest charge of £3 a person for their dinghy and windsurfing tasters on 8 July (10am - 4pm).
On July 15 West Lancashire Yacht Club will be running free dinghy taster sessions on the Marine Lake in Southport also between 10am and 4pm.
There is a later start of 1pm for both dinghy sailing and windsurfing tasters at Hollingworth Lake Water Activity Centre on 22 July with a slightly later finish at 4.30pm .
A week later (July 29) in the north of the region, Ullswater Yacht Club offer dinghy sailing tasters for £5 a head (10am - 4pm).
The programme is completed with three dinghy-focused free events in the south of the region with Nantwich and Border Counties Sailing Club on 5 August (10am - 4pm), Budworth Sailing Club on 28 August (10am - 4pm) and Leigh and Lowton Sailiong Club on 16 September (10am - 4pm).
