Oisin McClelland has battled some stiff competition and
challenging conditions at his first major regatta of the 2018 season.
Competing at the Finn European Championships in Cadiz, Spain
from 9 – 17 March, the Donaghadee Sailing Club sailor battled strong winds and
huge waves to secure a solid 26th overall position.
RYANI High Performance Manager Matt McGovern said the
sailor’s dedication over the winter months has put him in a strong position.
Matt commented: “Oisin has been working hard over the winter
with his training group at camps in Valencia, Spain.
The Finn European
Championships proved to be a very physical week with brutal conditions.”
He added: “This is a solid start to the season and a great
platform for Oisin. He will now build on this throughout the season and work
towards the major event of the year – the World Championships in Demark in
August.”
Commenting on his performance, Oisin McClelland said: “All
of the work I did with the strength and conditioning team at the Sports
Institute Northern Ireland over the winter has started to pay off. I feel good
in the boat and I am very pleased to say that I can see I have made some real
gains.”
