This follows on from the club’s recognition as an RYA Training Centre back in autumn 2016.

Run by sailing’s National Governing Body, the RYA, OnBoard is a highly successful industry supported grass roots programme which seeks to make sailing easier to get into for young people. Over a 12 year period the programme has already introduced over 700,000 children to sailing in the UK.

Supported by Ashford Borough Council, Conningbrook Lakes Sailing encourages local participation in sailing for residents of all ages. Dinghy Sailing Chief Instructor Danielle Juden says: “We’re really pleased to gain RYA recognition as an OnBoard centre. Currently we have about four after sailing sessions with children from local schools involved in OnBoard sessions and have been approached for further sessions from other youth groups.

“All our instructors are dedicated to making the RYA OnBoard programme a success and We look forward to introducing sailing to more young people who want to try the sport.”

East Kent Yachting Association Chairman Helen Hofmann adds: "RYA OnBoard Centre recognition shows Conningbrook Lakes Sailing offers qualified instruction with monitored safety procedures, ensuring we are providing both a safe and enjoyable time on the water. We are delighted to have gained the recognition.”

Cat Ferguson, RYA OnBoard Operations Officer, comments: “It’s great to welcome Conningbrook Lakes Sailing to the OnBoard programme. Sailing is a fantastic sport no matter your age, background or ability. We look forward to working with them and the local community to get as many people as possible enjoying our great sport.”

Conningbrook Lakes Sailing offers RYA approved courses for children aged eight upwards, youth and adults in dinghy sailing, as well as powerboat courses for those who would like to help with the safety boat.
