RYA Training Manager Richard Falk and Chief Instructor, Sail Cruising Craig Burton gave the gathered audience just a taste of what the new course was all about.
Richard commented: “The RYA has for decades provided top quality training courses; classroom and water based as well as distance learning, but we need to ensure we keep up with the times and this new course we hope does just that.”
The Essential Navigation and Seamanship course is an entry level course designed for anyone who ‘plays’ on the water. It’s a perfect fit for all water users from sailors and motorboaters to sea anglers and divers, and whether you’re the skipper or boat owner, or a crew member looking to know a little bit, this course provides, as its name suggests, all the essential elements needed to take to the water safely.
“The course incorporates the use of real charts combined with cutting edge technology and everything you need is provided. It’s a totally flexible way to learn so you can do it when and where you like for as long as you like”, continued Richard.
Craig then took onlookers through a few more of the finer details of the course explaining the Learn It, Try It, Test It elements, as well as the imagery and video content of the course.
“The course has been written by top RYA training experts and designed by award winning E-learning designers and is easy to use, fully interactive and packed with engaging graphics and clear instructions. You’ll cover topics such as; engine checks, passage planning, rules of the road, tidal awareness, buoyage and much more.
“As an added incentive we will also be giving the first 250 people to complete the course £20 worth of RYA Vouchers by way of an extra ‘congratulations’.”
Throughout the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show visitors will have the opportunity to trial the course on the RYA stand (A85).
