The event in Loctudy, France was a phenomenal success with over 200 entrants.

Even though the level of competition was intense, the primary focus was on the enjoyment of sailing as a sport and the promotion of friendship and camaraderie across nations. There were competitors from all around the world: Ireland, Great Britain, France, China, Macau and Republic of South Africa.

Five perfect days of sailing, a display of the highest standard of sportsmanship and behaviour both on and off the water, and a willingness to help other competitors are some of the factors that made the event so noteworthy and a big thank you goes out to all of the sponsors, organisers, helpers and parents who helped make this event possible.

Scott’s success was helped by sailing and being coached for a year in the RYA South East Topper Zone squad before progressing to the RYA Intermediate Junior Squad for a year and then the RYA Junior Squad last year.

Scott, who joined RHSC with his sister and parents in 2008, said of his success: “I have had great support from my RYA coaches over the last three years in squads and my win in Loctudy is the highlight of my Topper career. I’m really pleased with my achievement which I will look back on in my future sailing. My aim now is to move into a Laser Radial and work my way up the leader board again, and hopefully join the RYA Youth Squad in a year or two.”

Rye Harbour Sailing Club proudly opened new facilities in July this year after the club acquired funding for the project through a Sport England Inspired Facilities grant, with a little help from the RYA on the grant application. Home Secretary Amber Rudd was on hand to cut the ribbon and endorse the project saying: “I’m really pleased Sport England has invested in Rye Harbour Sailing Club. This region has a great maritime heritage and I hope these new facilities will encourage many more people to join the club and take to the water.” Visit
