Powerboats will be tearing through the waves at Boscombe Pier on 20 - 21 May for the third and fourth rounds of the RYA P750 National Championship.
The two-day event will see competitors from across the UK, race in heats over a ‘M' shaped race track approximately 200m by 200m from the shore-line; man and machine fighting like warriors against the elements in 4ft surf will be the challenge!
ThunderCat Racing is one of the world's most exhilarating water sports. The primary purpose of a ThunderCat is surf racing and they race at high speeds in the surf of up to 5 metres and wind speeds up to 45 knots. Crews consist of a driver and a co-driver. The driver drives from the rear of the ThunderCat, while the co-driver uses his weight to adjust the trim of the boat. Surf racing usually takes place as close to the shoreline as possible, ensuring an amazing spectacle for those on the shore, and fabulous racing for drivers and co-drivers.
Currently, the series is led by the team of Rob Davies and Darren Phillips representing Magor Racing closely followed by the teams of Multispark Racing and Nationwide Vehicle Assistance
The event will be free for spectators to view and is one of the few sports where a spectator can get up close to the teams. Spectators will be able to watch the racing from a designated area on Boscombe beach or Pier. The close action also provides a great opportunity for budding photographers and video photographers to take shots of the spectacular action taking place.
There is also plenty of action taking part on shore with the Atlantic Freestyle Football Crew entertaining the crowds with Open, Sick 3 and Challenge competitions.
Racing will take place between 12 - 3 pm on Saturday, followed by the Enduro at 3.30pm. On Sunday, the heats will take place between 12 - 2.30pm, with the Enduro racing at 3pm.
