Aspiring Dorset sailors will have the chance to try the fun and thrill of sailing in Poole Harbour at a charity event and barbecue on Sunday 17 September.

East Dorset Sailing Club is holding an open day as part of Bart’s Bash, a global event that raises money for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation. Showcasing their club in action, members will be offering adults and children the chance to crew on a cruiser in the Bart’s Bash Bay Race, on a gaff rigged Cornish Shrimper in the harbour, or on one of their new Topper Argo four-person dinghies.

Sailors of small cruisers can also book a tour of the club moorings and harbour approaches. Cruiser events start from 0900, dinghies from 1030 onwards, and a fundraising barbecue from 1300. Just bring suitable sailing clothes – buoyancy aids and lifejackets will be provided.
