Feva fever has arrived at the North Devon Yacht Club (NDYC) thanks to a successful bid to Sport England for a Small Grant. The £10,000 grant, match-funded by the club, was used to buy six RS Feva double-handed sailing dinghies to support the club’s aim to encourage young people to take up sailing.

Already an established RYA Training Centre, NDYC runs informal taster days as well as training and race events for young sailors, and it is delighted to have the RYA’s support in its plan to become a feeder club to the regional and national youth squads.

Angus Cook, NDYC Youth Squad Chairman commented: “The club has purchased the exciting RS Feva XL version, complete with a mylar racing mainsail, jib and gennaker. The boats have enabled the club to commit to developing the youth squad by training 100 cadets in 2017. In addition, we plan to attend some of the RS Feva Class Association events scheduled this year as well as continuing with fleet racing.”

Traditionally, NDYC has run an annual Taster Day for non-members to enjoy a taste of sailing. This year’s event was on an evening tide, on Friday 26 May, when families participated together in sailing catamarans and dinghies - and spent time in the bar afterwards!
