Up and coming British youth windsurfer Islay Watson is celebrating
after scooping bronze at the Techno Plus European Championships.
Watson, from Aviemore in Scotland, was part of a British
Youth Sailing contingent of four girls and two boys sent to represent Great
Britain at the regatta in Mondello, Sicily.
Also competing were Alysia Gibson, Izzy Adcock, Mollie Densley-Robbins,
Ethan Moody and Finn Hawkins.
Watson finished the week-long competition in fifth overall
but third and fourth place went to sailors from Argentina and Hong Kong,
handing her the European bronze medal.
Gibson came home sixth overall – fourth European – while Densley-Robbins
finished 10th (8th European) and Adcock 19th
(17th European) from the 51-strong fleet.
In the boys’ division Finn Hawkins came 16th
while Ethan Moody was 19th.
The strong performances put the sailors in good stead for
the RS:X Youth Nationals, starting tomorrow at the Weymouth and Portland
National Sailing Acadamy.
