Snowflake Sailing Club, based in Horning on the Norfolk Broads, is celebrating after their recent Sport England Small Grant success for a new rescue boat.
Sailing during the winter months, with their season running from October through to March, the purchase of a new rescue craft will enable the Club to run a coaching programme during the 2017/18 season targeted at youth dinghy sailors to develop their skills in a safe, supportive environment.
The £10,000 award will enable the RYA affiliated club to expand their activities to include weekly development sessions for sailors, covering areas such as improving racing skills, boat tuning and race tactics, all delivered through the Club’s volunteer coaches and instructors.
Club Secretary Richie Dugdale commented on the club’s success, “Snowflake Sailing Club are delighted to receive the grant from Sport England. Having this rescue craft will make a huge difference to our sailing and we are excited about the opportunities this will offer to sailors from October 2017. Many thanks to Sport England for their support.”
As one of only a few wholly winter Clubs based in the region, Snowflake SC is looking forward to the positive impact this will have on their sport, and plans are underway to hold an Open Day at the start of the 2017/18 season where local sailors can come and find out more about the activities on offer.
