Kit Hobday, a world champion sailor and veteran of 2 America’s Cup campaigns, founded the Bear of Britain Yachting Academy in 2001.
Kit’s mission was to form a race academy that could take ambitious young sailors and train them up to a standard where they could compete with the professional yacht racers of the world, improving Britain’s sailing success.
Sadly, Kit passed away in June 2006, but not before ensuring that his legacy would live on for years to come through a youth racing scheme. In early 2006, Kit joined forces with UKSA and Peter Harrison to create the GBR Yacht Racing Academy. The Academy has been extremely successful which has resulted in the Academy joining forces with the RYA to form the new BKA.
Peter Harrison, founder of the Peter Harrison Foundation and the man behind GBR Challenge (the last British America’s Cup Challenge entrant) is proud to be supporting the BKA. Peter is a keen and active sportsman and believes that education and sport provide the key to self development.
Peter’s foundation, The Peter Harrison Foundation, was set up to help and encourage people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to develop their self-potential. Without Peter’s support and guidance over the past 4 years the BKA would not be in the position it is now.
